Overlooking the James River, I met Carolyn and Jim. Carolyn and Jim were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, and for this momentous occasion, their two daughters organized a family vacation at River Ridge, a beautiful architect-designed home between Upper Shirley Vineyard and Shirley Plantation. The home had a lovely view that saw the Presquile National Wildlife Refuge, and it was the perfect spacious location for the couple to relax with their two daughters and their husbands, as well as for their 4 grandchildren to roam, explore and play -- a visible fruit of their 50 year union.

I find anniversaries special. As Carolyn and Jim were telling me a little bit about their story and showing me a portrait from their wedding day, I was brought back to the reality that they are a sign of the wedding vows lived out -- for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish -- all the days of their life. It was a great privilege to be able to photograph the family they have created and raise together.

I am excited to photograph more anniversaries this season!

Happy 50th Anniversary, Carolyn & Jim!
